Regional Creeps describe themselves as ‘Indie pop lo-fi type band from Barnsley, South Yorkshire’. Their new single is ‘The Streak Must Go On’ and from the opening chords it’s likely you’ll be swept up in a hazy reverie and know that you have found your repeat-button-single-of-the-summer.
When asked for some words on the release the RCs sent us: “Grab a cold one, load up warzone again and get back in the lobby. The Streak Must Go On. Exciting new lo-fi bedroom pop from Regional Creeps. The first single from the South Yorkshire jangle-poppers since their 2nd album ‘No One Cares’. Wrote in the depths of lockdown in Zach’s conservatory with nothing else to do. ‘Streak Must Go On’ is a speck of shiny sunlight that pierces through the pane of what has felt like a forever dormant window.“
A “forever dormant window” an ominous phrase if ever I’ve read one, but I disagree that this is “speck of shiny sunlight”, to me It’s like the beautiful blast of sunshine you get when coming out of a long tunnel. It radiates good vibes and bonhomie with a balmy zephyr gently moving the umbrella in your poolside cocktail and the guitar riff plays like light glinting off the watery swirl of backing. Even the slight menace of the chorus hook “The streak must go on, all out domination“ is delivered with a friendly, head-swaying affability.
‘The Streak Must Go On’ deserves to be on everyone’s summer playlist and you’ll know if someone is listening to it as their head will be swaying slightly and they will have a blissful smile on their face.
