The Bobby Lees are a four piece who came together in 2018 in Woodstock, New York. They released their first album Beauty Pageant which led them to supporting bands such as The Black Lips on tour. In 2020, they released their second album Skin Suit which was produced by Jon Spencer of The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion.
Fast forward to 2022 and The Bobby Lees are now signed with Ipecac Recordings and have released the four track EP ‘Hollywood Junkyard’ which is my personal first encounter with their music. As someone with a particularly soft spot for female vocals and good rock music I’m wondering how I hadn’t found them sooner. As it is all provided in its shed loads from singer/guitarist Sam Quartin, drummer Macky Bowman, guitarist Nick Casa and bassist Kendall Wind on this short but fantastic EP.
The songs on this EP drip with attitude and vigour. There are echoes of The Runaways ‘Dead End Justice” within the bassline and echoey vocals on title track ‘Hollywood Junkyard’ and some of the vocals on ‘Strange Days’ are reminiscent of Siouxie Sioux.
They blend these powerful influences with their own personal sound and spark to make a truly exciting EP that leaves you thirsty for more.
