The Joyzine Advent Calendar – 24 Days of Free Music Downloads #9: MiKey and The SkEletons

On the Joyzine Advent Calendar we’re giving away free downloads of tracks by artists that we love (including plenty of exclusives and a fair few festive favourites) every day until Christmas Eve on what, as far as we’re aware (and we’re always happy to be corrected), is the longest running such calendar on the web.

As always, the tracks are completely free to download and there’s no need to sign up to any mailing lists to access the songs (though if you’d like to you can join ours here), but if you’re enjoying the tunes we’d love you to make a donation to the wonderful charity Child Poverty Action Group, who work on behalf of the more than one in four children currently growing up in poverty in the UK by providing support to families navigating the social security system, taking legal action to challenge unjust decisions and campaigning for change. You can make a donation on this link.

Today’s Advent Calendar treat comes from a brand new collaboration between Mikey Georgeson (voice and music), who some will know as The Vessel from David Devant & His Spirit Wife) and the poet Elaine Hamilton (lyrics). We caught up with Mikey to find out more.

The El in skEletons is Elaine. miKey is a reminder to myself that the heart is key to understanding (as well as a way of letting people know I’m not called Micky).

This is an exclusive of the first song in a brand new collaboration between myself and the poet Elaine Hamilton who I met through curating the Blakefest art celebrations of William Blake. We are both very much denizens of the realm of Blake’s four-fold hype-aesthetic vision. I very excited about continuing our entanglement in music. This track also features the majestic french horn playing of Nath Mr Wolf Thomas.

I’ve been making lots of performative art this year and a particular highlight was the Look Upon My Works Ye Mighty and Despair exhibition in Horsham, reviving the radical tradition of Horsham’s Percy Bysshe Shelley who died 200 years ago this year. The exhibition summoned the intra=relational nature of community and climaxed with the Swan Walk of Shame in which I draped myself in the Cloak Of Longing and led a procession to the gallery, where we spontaneously met with real life teenage hoodlums who immediately entered the kindness of the event. A very special life event for me.

David Devant celebrated 25 years of Work love life isa. at the Water Rats in November in spectacular style playing the album in its entirety. This magical ritual will be repeated at The Hope and Ruin on December 22nd this year!

The perfect Christmas song has a vibe of euphoric longing with a sparkling tapestry of sonic textures.
