Video Premiere: Gabi Garbutt & The Illuminations – Subterranean Stars

Regular readers will be familiar with Gabi Garbutt’s stellar punk poetry, and we’re delighted to bring you a first chance to see the video for her new single ‘Subterranean Stars’, out on limited edition 7″ lathe cut vinyl via Trapped Animal Records. It’s the latest track to be released from her excellent second album Cockerel and comes with a home demo recording of ‘This Higher Place’ from her debut LP and an exclusive digital download of ‘Lady From Seville’, a track co-written with John Hassall of The Libertines. You can order your copy here.

We spoke with Gabi about the song for a track by track feature on the album earlier this year, in which she told us, “I’ve always loved the William Blake idea ‘to see a world in a grain of sand and heaven in a wild flower,’ the link to something divine in the mundane, and this song is very much written with this world view.”

It comes with a video composed of crowd-sourced footage, as Gabi explains: “For this video we put a shout out on social media for people to submit their live footage of our shows, and we had a great response, with footage from our tours with The Libertines, Big Country, our German dates and recent London shows. Dan Fatel edited all this together with previously unseen footage from recording our first record at Edwyn Collins’s studio.”
