SINGLE REVIEW: SHANGRI-LASS – PARALLEL

Shangri-Lass is the solo project of Sister Wives’ bass player Rose Love and ‘Parallel’ is the new single from the forthcoming Over & Over EP. One of the great things about hearing solo projects from bands you admire is to get a sense of what which pieces they bring to the jigsaw puzzle that every band makes up and in the case of ‘Parallel’ it swirls like psych, struts like Motown and is as cool as Françoise Hardy or Sylvie Vartan.

There are crisp drum stabs at the on and off beats which fire guitar trills and organ squalls and, unsurprisingly for a bass player, it’s the compelling elastic bass line that drives the song along and this first release well and truly whets the appetite for the forthcoming EP.

You can pre-order the digital download of Over & Over from Bandcamp and it’s out on Sheffield’s Redundant Span Records label on 28th April.
