‘Serious’ is the new single from Essential Logic which is officially released tomorrow but Joyzine have been chosen to premiere this great song and music visualiser.
Essential Logic for the uninitiated feature Lora Logic on vocals, formerly the saxophonist of punk legends X Ray Spex. They were initially formed back in 1978, when Lora left X Ray Spex, but went on to split in 1981 and reformed again in 2001.
‘Serious’ is taken from the album ‘Land of Kali’ which was released late last year. The track is atmospheric, a melting pot of goth, punk and a slight sprinkle of ska. The song is dreamy with whispery vocals and a saxophone melody that is bound to stay stuck in your mind.
The song is deep and personal, this is how Lora explains the song: “A meltdown experience from 1981. When I was outside and above my body, looking down as it trembled. I’d smoked too much of something too strong, which trigged an epileptic fit. Living in squats and not being particularly aware of bodily maintenance, my health was low. I started a conversation with Krishna because I thought I was on death’s borders. I’ll be more serious if you let me stay.”
Essential Logic have also announced their first live show of 2023. They will be performing at the Punk Rage and Revolution festival in Leicester on August 18th. The festival will also include a screening of the Poly Strene documentary and a Q&A with Poly’s Daughter and director Celeste Bell. You can buy tickets here
