Londoners Dead Horse have been tickling our collective fancies with their deliciously sludgy garage psych concoctions for some time now, and with new single ‘Truth’ they’re serving up another helping of the good stuff. Counting amongst their number vocalist/bassist Kevin Lennon (formerly of Joyzine faves Love Buzzard and Scab Hand) and drummer Duncan Clark (who is responsible for our lovely magpie logo), Dead Horse deal in beats that go thump, guitars that go squelch and vocals that bark like a terrier that’s been hitting the anise hard.
‘Truth’ adds a wonderfully twangy runaway sci-fi surf guitar line to the mix, along with an otherwordly background wobble that may well be a Theremin and the B-movie atmosphere is matched by a playful video featuring the adventures of three old school bed-sheet ghosts (a nod to David Lowery’s A Ghost Story perhaps?) featuring, if the cheeky end credits are to be believed, some rather high profile cameos.
The band will launch the single with a gig at The Shacklewell Arms in East London on Wednesday 31st January, where they’ll be joined by Colour Me Blood Red and Ich Bin Finn. Tickets, priced at £5.50 are available via Dice.
