Video of the Week: Dead Horse – Dog Shop

‘Dog Shop’ is the latest single to be taken from Ménagerie Trois, the third EP from London absurdist swamp punk trio Dead Horse, which was release in December as a 5-track digital download and 10 track 12″ EP featuring 5 additional B-Sides including recent single ‘Truth‘ as well as 4 self produced improvised live tracks.

They are a band we’ve been fans of since they first oozed into our consciousness in the early days of this decade. The links run deep with vocal/bass/saxophonist Kevin Lennon having previously fronted Joyzine faves Love Buzzard and Scab Hand, while drummer Duncan Clark designed our lovely magpies logo (fun fact, the magpies are constructed from lots of cut up articles from the first 18 years of Joyzine).

‘Dog Shop’ is a snarling, snapping mongrel of a track, whose owners should really consider taking it to the vets to check it’s had all of its shots. The vocals foam at the mouth, the guitars scratch at the furniture and the rhythm section appears to be doing something unspeakable to your leg. It’s not likely to win best at show at Crufts, but to the right owner it could become a much loved companion.

The track is accompanied by a fantastic video, set within a TV home shopping channel for all your canine needs. Writer/directors Duncan Clark & Sarah Lisgo clearly had fun with the item names, and events take a suitably odd turn as the track gnashes and howls its way towards its conclusion.

Ménagerie Trois is available now on 12″ vinyl from Elastic Stage, as a digital download via Bandcamp and on all the usual streaming services
