EP Review: Bridget- Damage Reversal

I always love when I get forwarded music that friends think that I might like, and this artist forwarded from fellow Joyzine writer and editor- Paul F Cook (whose reviews you should also read if you don’t already by the way, they are brilliant) was no exception. The moment that I read on Bridget’s press release that she is an ‘Essex Grunge Powerhouse’. I just knew that I was going to love this woman’s music. I hadn’t even listened to the music yet and already she had scored a hat trick on my internal music score board. I passionately support female artists, I love a bit of grunge, and I’m from Essex myself, so I will always have a soft spot for fellow Essex women.

Forget about white stilettos and mini skirts, Bridget may only be a mere 21 years old, but you won’t find any of those tired Essex Girl stereotypes in this EP. ’Damage Reversal’ consists of 5 songs, and it’s safe to say unsurprisingly, I loved every song. There is a grit and sharpness to her music, that gives the songs a but of bite, but at the same time, there are also melodic and catchy moments.

My personal favourite track is ‘Throw Me in the Pit’, a belter of a song with an incredibly catchy chorus ‘Are you going to throw me in the pit like you hate me? I bet we like the same songs, I think we should marry” Although not pure metal, the raw attitude is definitely of the same calibre.

With comparisons to bands like Wolf Alice and Hole being made, I am sure Bridget will be onto bigger and better things soon enough. ‘Damage Reversal’ was everything I hoped it to be and more. I am so looking forward to hearing more from my fellow lass from Essex!
