LIVE IN PICTURES: MANIC STREET PREACHERS & SUEDE – DREAMLAND MARGATE, 19/07/24

When the Manics and Suede announced a UK joint headline tour it became one of the hottest tickets of the Summer, and the final show at Margate’s Dreamland on Friday proved doubly so. Basking in the 29 degree heat, it’s the hottest day of the year, but nothing compares to the heat burning from the stage, as – cliché alert – both bands were on fire!

The Manics delivered a greatest hits package with crowd pleasers ‘You Love Us’, ‘Design For Life’ and ‘Motorcycle Emptiness’, but they also delved into the back catalogue and ‘This is Yesterday’ and ‘Suicide is Painless’ slotted perfectly into the set. They were joined by the incredibly talented Catherine Anne Davies, aka The Anchoress, for two duets; ‘Little Baby Nothing’ and ‘Your Love Alone..’ , which were the highlight of the show.

As the Summer light faded a cloud of dry ice announced the entrance of Suede, and, in a crisp white shirt, singer / force of nature Brett Anderson blazed across the stage like a comet across the night sky. The dazzling set list included ‘She’, ‘Trash’, ‘Animal Nitrate’ and ‘Filmstar’. Plus, new song ‘Antidepressants’ and another early single ‘Metal Mickey’. A singalong to ‘Beautiful Ones’ ended the all-too-short performance, and the crowd were left to wonder how the last 75 minutes passed so quickly, and how they want to do it all over again. As the slogan on the tour t shirt says ‘ Stay Beautiful, Beautiful Ones’ and for one night Dreamland truly lived up to its’ name.
