Swedish indie punk outfit Clutter burst onto the scene with their debut single “Jesus,” a thrilling 7” release via PNKSLM Recordings. This four-piece channels the chaotic energy of their name into a sonic whirlwind that recalls the best of 90s rock, with a distinctive blend of grunge, post-hardcore, and shoegaze influences.
“Jesus” is a captivating introduction to Clutter’s soundscape, where fuzz-laden guitars, courtesy of lead vocalist and guitarist Emma French. The track evokes the spirit of The Breeders while nodding to the dreamy haze of Britpop and shoegaze, creating a vibe that’s both nostalgic and refreshingly contemporary. At its core lies a brilliant, infectious guitar riff that anchors the song’s fuzzy, untamed feel.
Clutter’s ability to balance these elements is part of what makes “Jesus” so compelling. The band harnesses their crackling potential, teetering on the edge of disorder but never losing their grip. Their sound is as much about energy as it is about texture, with layers of distortion and dynamic shifts that keep the listener hooked from start to finish.
Accompanying the single is a low-budget yet highly effective music video that mirrors the band’s DIY ethos. Set in a white studio, the video features sleazy early-2000s aesthetics, enhanced by comic-book-style animations from Henry Ander. The result is a fun and gritty introduction to the band that perfectly complements their sound. As Clutter themselves put it, “Jesus is an indie rock song about everything and nothing and the things in between.”
They’ve also announced a headline show at London’s Lexington on April 16th, a date that should be marked on the calendar of anyone who loves their indie rock loud, raw, and unapologetically full of heart.
Clutter’s “Jesus” is more than a debut; it’s a statement. For fans of fuzz-drenched riffs, grungy vocals, and the unrelenting spirit of indie punk, this Swedish quartet is one to watch.
‘Jesus’ is out now and you can buy the single through Clutter’s Bandcamp
