August sees the release of a mammoth charity record that is jam packed with an absolute who’s who of current and vital noise rock, experimental, unclassified bands who have come together and donated tracks to an absolutely brilliant and worthwhile charity.
On August 1st, 2015, Stephen Lee Clarke walked back into life after spending 116 days in hospital recovering from a stem cell transplant that saved his life. Clarke had been given just two weeks to live, but thanks to the incredible work of Anthony Nolan, a matching donor was found in time.
On August 1st, 2025, UK-based curator and artist WRONGPOP (Stephen Lee Clarke) released 116: Ten Years Later, a colossal 76-track charity compilation, featuring exclusive and donated songs from over 70 artists across the underground and alternative spectrum. Released exclusively on Bandcamp for one month only, the compilation features new, unreleased and rare tracks from names like Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs, The Armed, Art Brut, Shit and Shine, CHROMA, Modern Technology and Noah Ezra, a street musician Clarke met while travelling through Ecuador. The album dropped on Bandcamp Friday (August 1st), with 100% of proceeds going to Anthony Nolan, the UK charity that finds life-saving stem cell donors for people.
To be precise, the exclusive tracks are from: Jub Jub · Warmfield · REO · Jon Richards · Hamer9 · Xeeland · Microchimerisms (Scott Lee Andrews feat. The Armed, zenn0rz, Marc Whitworth) · Flotation Toy Warning · Joyce · Jonny Halifax Invocation · Day of The Naysayer · James Adrian Brown · Pete Power · Sweet Williams · Island Life · The Fierce and The Dead · Thee Alcoholics · Objections · La Bestia de Gevaudan · in violet (feat. SHTËPI) · worriedaboutsatan · TARMAC · Dealing With Damage · Supernatural Cats of Japan · Stef Kett · Reciprocate · Punching Swans · Shit and Shine · CHROMA · Pigs x7 · Klamp · Noah Ezra · Kylie Monologue · The Ultra Deep Field · Camp Stag · M S Thomason · MFK
So what of the bands included in this colossal collection? The exclusive ones are as brilliant as the nonexclusive ones. Rarities from the afore mentioned include:
Jimmy Watkins AKA Joyce brings an exclusive remix by James Adrian Brown to one of his tracks ‘Old Mold Road’ that has delicious wonky 80s electronica with a surprisingly big sound that resonates for ages after. An act to check out of you’re not already familiar with Joyce. Brilliant stuff.
So what of Noah Ezra that Clarke met in Ecuador? ‘Change my Ways’ is sung with a rich and raw vocal that is accompanied with both and acoustic and electric guitar that reminds one of Santana at times. Sublime in its seemingly simple execution. What a voice and what a talent!
Pigs, Pigs, Pigs, Pigs, Pigs, Pigs, Pigs don’t need any introduction at all with their inclusion here, but ‘GNT’ from their 2018 LP ‘King of Cowards’ is an absolutely brutal track that has become a mainstay in their set list up to present day with its big riffage, elongated soloing and suffocating sludge. A standout track here.
Shit and Shine out do themselves with ‘Snare 2’. And absolutely stunning tribal and hypnotic track from this band who very rarely step out into the limelight. Superb stuff.
Plus donated tracks from: Art Brut · CARSICK · cheerbleederz · Problem Patterns (feat. Matt Korvette of Pissed Jeans) · Beauty Sleep · SAY (feat. crowspeak) · Codex Serafin · Jungfrau · The Twostep Goodbyes · Julie’s Haircut · Herzoga · Health Plan · Penfriend · The Eurosuite · Cower · Gum Takes Tooth · Arms and Sleepers · Modern Technology · Hawkmen · Dive · USA Nails · Dez Dare · Sex Swing · Ensemble1 · Predeceased · underhand · A’Bear · Lower Slaughter · Glacial Pace · Codices · Teeth of The Sea · Guyvers · Michael · Sly and The Family Drone · Poly-Math · Gluehorse · Over-Gain Optimal Death · Louse · Empty House (Fred Laird)
The new and brilliant Problem Patterns (Feat Matt Korvette of Pissed Jeans) donate ‘Sad Old Woman’ and it’s another slab of demented punk rock that feels like it will break down and collapse at any time. Combative, confrontational and chaotic. What every punk rock song should be surely? Another stand out track on this hard to stand out on LP!!
Teeth of the Sea bring their much-loved electronica fused goth which this time has laid back vocals and a backing track that sounds like a John Carpenter soundtrack slowly unravelling to an abrupt full stop, ‘Get with the program’ is seriously fucking good stuff.
Michael’s ‘Big Shoe That Foot’ is a slow burner from this infamous band that mix big noise with spoken word/poetry and traditional vocals. What an inclusion and what a band.
Finally, a personal favourite of mine, Sly and the Family Drone donate the brilliantly titled ‘Cuban Funeral Sandwich’. An epic 7.29 of sublime controlled free form experimental jazz saxophone and percussion. Another standout track on this epic LP.
Stephen says, “The release date, August 1st, isn’t random. It’s the day I walked back into my life ten years ago and the album cover it’s the actual note my stem cell donor wrote me after they heard the transplant had worked. That piece of paper means everything. So does this album.”
Buy this LP today. You will not be disappointed. It’s currently listed as pay £10 or more. An absolute fucking bargain even if you pay more. And if it does get re-released, make sure you buy it on another Bandcamp Friday. An essential release crammed full of acts that are currently selling out pubs and halls around the UK. Some of them you may have heard of, and some not so much. But by jingo you need to buy the LP as at least one of the bands on this list will change your life forever. I guarantee that.
And in doing so, you may end up changing the life of someone like Stephen Lee Clarke with your donation to Anthony Nolan. Clarke’s life was held in the balance before a donor appeared. Two weeks turned into ten years. Clark has been able to live a life filled with art and music and in turn has curated this body of work which will inspire generations to come. Buy it, fall in love with your favourite new band, and then continue onwards as you never know what will be around the corner.
The album will only be available for the month of August, with all profits going to this amazing charity. The minimum target is £1,000 which of course we know that together we can easily achieve!
