SINGLE REVIEW: LEG PUPPY 2.0 – LANYARD MAN

‘Lanyard Man’ hits a milestone as 2026 is the band’s 10th Anniversary bringing their 12th studio album.

Leg Puppy have been holding a mirror up to society since they first fired up a synthesiser. They have a way of pulling you in with a cracking title and a sly take on the increasing madness in the world. Here are selection of titles and concepts from the band: Music for the TikTok Generation (12 tracks, each one 2 seconds long), ‘Selfie Stick (Narcissistic Prick)’, The Air In Utopia Is Poison, and ‘Paycheck’ which knocks seven liberty bells out of the online gambling world.

The band say that ‘Lanyard Man’ is “a raw, heartfelt reckoning with that fear. Set against a modern landscape hollowed out by automation and A.I., the story chronicles the quiet devastation of a loyal employee cast aside after 30 years of service. His decades of dedication are reduced to a final, hollow reward: A commemorative 30-year lanyard, symbolic of a system that no longer values human lives beyond their utility.

With menacing synth-pulses and string like stabs ‘Lanyard Man’ does what Leg Puppy 2.0 do best, create an unsettling backdrop on which to build lyrics with inbuilt sneer: “Thirty years, the keys, the grind, a faithful cog, a loyal mind” and “Thirty years, then told goodbye, replaced by code, he wants to die”. This is a look at a life that is every bit as plastic and disposable as the lanyard itself.

Their catalogue stands as a testament to what I have always said about them; they are George Orwell’s house band.

Leg Puppy 2.0 also recently gave Joyzine the top 5 tracks that have inspired them and we will also be partnering with the band on a series of concerts that will be announced soon.
