VIDEO PREMIERE: KAT FIVE – EMERGENCY START

Kate Five is a longstanding friend of Joyzine and last year we premiered her track ‘Switch’. She’s back with a new video for the track ‘Emergency Start’ and once again we have the great pleasure of premiering it for Joyzine readers.

The track champions art activism and is inspired by the Hard Art Collective led by Brian Eno. As Kat says “Culture is a mighty way to inspire and unite people, and we need it more than ever to help combat the horrors of the current world, and build new alternatives. This is a call out to all kinds of creators, and also a shout out for some simple moves you can make against techno-feudalism. Already this year we’ve seen a new Mutual Defiance Day which I loved contributing music to, and I’m excited about the new Nothing But Love music movement which launched at the Together march.”

‘Emergency Start’ flips the idea that instead of slamming on the breaks we should be raising the alarm and resetting our digital lives. Question everything, embrace our humanity, “I’m not a subject, not an object, and if I object, I’m gonna reject”. The track pulses with a brooding EDM beat and the neon-infused video is directed by Claudi Panaite. Kat Five fights against a (world wide) web of hazard tape trying to break free.

I had a vision of breaking through yellow and black bonds, and creative director Claudi Panaite brought that to life in an incredible way, including building a special set for us to use on location at Cu Dalston, a venue I love.”
