As today’s cover image shows, amongst all of the merriment, tinsel and shiny paper, Christmas has often had a bit of a darker, creepier side; so for today’s window we bring you our own Nightmare Before Christmas.
Medway instrumental drone rockers Upcdownc released a horror album Faster Than Evil back in February. They’ve since released a special live version of their 2005 album And The Battle Is Won to celebrate its 10th anniversary and more recently unveiled a self-titled EP and will play at ace Herne Hill hideaway Off The Cuff, alongside fellow Joyzine faves Lost Film Foundation on 16th December.
For today’s calendar window, they’ve recorded a brand new track ‘The Meaning of Christmas’, complete with haunting film samples (there’s always something creepy about old recordings of kids’ voices) and a mangled ‘Little Drummer Boy’ outro. Download it here.
What to say about Vodun? Three elemental spirits pouring out searing waves of primal cacophony, their live rituals have enchanted and bedevilled audiences across the land in equal measure as they set them ablaze (quite literally whenever drummer Ogoun gets the opportunity).
