Roadkill Records have been London’s standard-bearer for psych-infused garage rock awesomeness for some time now and this weekend hosted a whole weekend of live music absolutely free at The Lock Tavern in Camden (check out our preview article for a playlist of tracks by the weekend’s bands). Joyzine’s Rupert Hitchcox was there, camera in hand, to capture the action on day one.
Kicking things off were South Yorkshire deathwave four piece Abominable Soul.
They were followed by post-punks White Ape, whose recent single ‘Drones Clones Ramones’ was a Joyzine video of the day.
Next up were The Higher Planes, who throw a touch of soul and folk into the psych rock mix.
Broken Soundtracks were playing their last ever show. Their slacker rock & roll will be sorely missed in these parts.
Heavy Sugar on the other hand are just starting out, though Roadkill regulars will have spotted some familiar faces among the line-up from the likes of Bad for Lazarus, Dirty White Fever and Hanz Rollo.
Following them, were York-based rockabilly duo Snakerattlers.
We’ll have a full review and photos of Day two for you soon.
