2018 has been an excellent year for new music, and for live shows in particular with countless breathtaking live shows jostling for position in our end of year lists.
One that will stick long in the memory after all the ‘Best of 2018’ articles are long forgotten was Vienna Ditto’s farewell show at The Bird’s Nest in Deptford. A bittersweet affair that encapsulated all of the reasons why we’ve been shouting about this band ever since we first heard the demo version of their debut track ‘Long Way Down’ ten years ago (check out our review here).
The Reading/Oxford based duo leave us with a goodbye present in the form of two final albums, Flat Earth and شبح (Persian for ‘Ghost’) and today’s advent calendar offering comes from the latter – a beautiful rendition of ‘Amazing Grace’ that perfectly showcases the band’s mix of wonderfully wonky lo-fi electronics and haunting gospel.
