The Joyzine Advent Calendar – 24 Days of Free Music Downloads #15: Hot Sauce Pony

On the Joyzine Advent Calendar we’re giving away free downloads of tracks by artists that we love (including plenty of exclusives and a fair few festive favourites) every day until Christmas Eve on what, as far as we’re aware (and we’re always happy to be corrected), is the longest running such calendar on the web.

As always, the tracks are completely free to download and there’s no need to sign up to any mailing lists to access the songs (though if you’d like to you can join ours here). Throughout the calendar we’ve been asking you to make a donation to the wonderful charity Child Poverty Action Group, however today given the choice of song we’d like you to send your donation to Target Ovarian Cancer.

The words Hot Sauce Pony surrounded by Christmas trees and snowflakes

We’ve not heard much from Joyzine faves Hot Sauce Pony since they last appeared on this very calendar in 2020, so we were delighted when they answered our call out for this year’s edition, and doubly so when they emerged with a wonderful rendition of Low’s festive classic ‘Just Like Christmas’, particularly timely following the sad news of Low drummer and vocalist Mimi Parker last month.

We caught up with the band to find out what they’ve been up to since we last heard from them.

What have you been up to in 2022?
Errr, moving house, studying, getting married and various real life activities between us. Busy with other projects too. And finally recording our Christmas song for you.

What do you have planned for next year?
We have been working on a new record for a while, all lovingly created, produced and recorded onto tape at Brixton Hill Studios. We are excited to share this with the public in 2023.

What can you tell us about today’s track?
This is our tribute to Mimi Parker. It is our take on a song from the Low Christmas EP.  Jenny from Hurtling suggested that if you like the song then perhaps you might give a little towards https://giving.targetovariancancer.org.uk/landing/ Jenny knows best. Do as she says.

What makes the perfect Christmas song?
I don’t know about a song, but the best Christmas album has got to be A Charlie Brown Christmas by the Vince Guaraldi Trio.
