The Joyzine Advent Calendar #15: 24 Days of Free Music Downloads – Hot Sauce Pony

Yesterday’s Advent Calendar treats tapped into the spirit of Christmas past with The Long Blondes’ festive favourite ‘Christmas Is Cancelled’ before moving very much into Christmas present with Michael M’s ‘Baby, I Will Zoom You This Christmas. You can download both here. Today we have an exclusive new track by a band who have already appeared once on this year’s calendar, albeit in a different guise.

As always, the tracks are completely free to to download and there’s no need to sign up to any mailing lists to access the tracks (though if you’d like to you can join ours here), but with the UK’s independent music venues in peril following almost a year of covid restrictions, we’d love you to make a donation to the Music Venue Trust‘s #saveourvenues campaign if you enjoy these tracks. You can make a donation to the fund, or to a specific venue of your choice here.

Hot Sauce Pony have been favourite around these parts ever since we received their debut single on lovely local label Brixton Hillbilly Records back in 2016 and have cemented a place in our hearts with some excellent live shows and last year’s debut self-titled album that mixed sweet and spicy flavours with a deliciously crunchy texture.

Two of their four members also featured as part of the Brixton Hill Studios supergroup whose #saveourvenues themed rendition of Band Aid’s ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas?’ was behind window #2 of this year’s calendar.

Their own entry, ‘Gwyneth’, is everything that we love about HSP – blasting us with a fuzzy lo-fi punk stomp before launching into an off-kilter indie-pop chorus all the while taking aim at Ms Paltrow’s dubious range of pricey well-being produce.
