The Joyzine Advent Calendar #4: 24 Days of Free Music Downloads

Much like the lad in this week’s window image, we’re laden with more gifts than we can feasibly carry today, courtesy of legendary garage rock label Damaged Goods, which this year celebrated its 30th anniversary with a compilation of tracks harvested from their 500 release, 168 band back-catalogue.

Home at one time or another to the likes of Buzzcocks, Manic Street Preachers, Asian Dub Foundation and of course Billy Childish in his many and varied guises, not to mention Joyzine faves such as Mika Bomb, The Severed Limb and Piney Gir, the label continued to go from strength to strength in 2018 with new LPs from Holly Golightly, The Senior Service, Amyl & The Sniffers and more.

Today, they’ve provided us with a multitude of free goodies, including a couple of fantastic festive cuts, the first of which comes from Wild Billy Childish & The Musicians of The British Empire in the form of ‘Father Christmas Is Dressed In Green’, which comes from their Christmas 1979 album (get it here).  Billy released a new single ‘Something’s Missing Inside’ earlier this year with his current band CTMF.

Welsh indie-pop cult heroes Helen Love can also be found in a seasonal mood in their collaboration with Ricardo Autobahn, ‘And The Salvation Army Band Played’, which is also available on red vinyl with a banging disco remix from the Damaged Goods shop.

Less Christmassy but equally splendid is ‘Every Little Bit of Me’ by former Headcoatee Miss Ludella Black, who released a brand new LP Till You Lie In Your Grave in the summer.  Her first album in a decade, which includes covers of The Beatles and Black Sabbath alongside 12 original tunes, is available on CD and vinyl here.

Medway trio The Shadracks also released a new LP through the label this year, along with a two-track tribute 7″ to X-Ray Spex.  ‘She Sailed The Sea’ is taken from their debut self-titled album, which you can get your mits on here.

Rounding off our quintet of fantastic free music goodness are Thee Dagger Debs, whose self-titled album was released earlier this year (get your copy here).  From it we have bluesy rock & roll stomper ‘Move It’.
