When it gets to this time of year, there are certain songs that you know there will be no escape from. Slade, Wizzard, Cliff, Mariah and Macca simply having a wonderful Christmas time in every shop, on every radio station and from every charity bucket swinging street singer. Some are welcome old favourites that spread a nostalgic glow of Christmas cheer, others can turn the merriest of folk into a humbugging Scrooge within the first two bars.
The good folk at Monotreme Records have grasped the festive nettle with a compilation of seasonal favourites given an overhaul by their impressive roster, along with a couple of freshly penned odes to the season. We get a dreamy cinematic take on ‘Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas’ from Jack Watt, a synth washed rendition of ‘Drummer Boy (Peace on Earth)’ by The Favourite Bench and a jolly romp through Eartha Kitt’s ‘Santa Baby’ from Thee More Shallows, which we have for you as today’s free festive treat.
A Very Monotreme Christmas is out on CD and as a digital download on 7th December.
