The Joyzine Advent Calendar #8: 24 Days of Free Music Downloads

It’s been a fantastic year for gigs but one of our absolute live music highlights of 2018 was undoubtedly Loud Women Fest, which took over The Dome and Boston Music Rooms in Tufnell Park in the summer.  Today’s free music treat comes from a band who provided one of the many high points of the day.

GUTTFULL have been Joyzine favourites ever since their subtle as a brick in the face debut single ‘Arsehole’ hit us with its direct sax-punk thrills and top class shade throwing (‘You think you’re the man, but even your nan thinks you’re an arsehole‘ may be one of our favourite lyrics of recent years), and their Loud Women set sizzled with the same electricity that flows through the bodies of the protagonists of new single ‘The Power’ (based on the excellent novel of the same name by Naomi Alderman).

Those familiar with GUTTFULL’s fearsome DIY punk attack might be surprised to hear that their offering for today’s calendar window is an acapella gospel protest song, but that’s exactly what ‘White Man’s Had His Day’ has in store.  No less powerful for it’s gentler approach, the final track from their debut album Tits & Nails is a secular hymn for change.
