It’s the nineteenth day of The Joyzine Advent Calendar and today we have an exclusive version of a track from one of our favourite albums of the year.
We’ve been big fans of Arrows of Love for a long time now, but the release of their second album Product: Your Soundtrack to the Impending Societal Collapse saw them kick their chaotic punk sound into uncharted territory with more complex song structures, deeper layers of sound and a more overtly political edge.
‘Come With Me’ is a perfect example, building from a droning clang of guitars to a swarming plague of fuzz and riddled with detours that vary from intricate picking that wouldn’t sound out of place on OK Computer to blasts of heavy as hell distortion, while bassist Nuha breathily intones a spoken word narrative over the top. It’s one of the highlights of an album that deserves to feature in plenty of end of year ‘best of’ list features.
Today we have an exclusive download of the original demo version of the track – it’s really interesting to hear how little changes in emphasis and enunciation can make a big difference to the overall effect. Both versions are great in their own way, so we’d definitely recommend giving the album version a listen here after downloading today’s free treat.
