Santa and Rudolph. Morcambe and Wise. Christmas pudding and brandy butter. Just a few of the pairings that you may be enjoying this festive season, and for today’s Advent Calendar entry we’re adding another to the list.
Lark, the musical project of visual artist Karl Bielik, are Advent Calendar veterans and this year they’ve brought a friend along to the party with this remix of ‘Broken’ by ambient experimentalist Xqui.
The original version of the track featured on Lark’s 2018 album The Last Woman (available now through Bandcamp) and Xqui has taken the raw, shadowy drawl of the original and unfolded it to create a new sense of space with keys sparkling ethereally in the background.

We’ve also got a track from Xqui’s forthcoming album Capitulate, due for release on 18th January 2019 through Wormhole World, and available for pre-order now.
‘Epiphany’ features a haunting choral refrain being slowly buried beneath an electronic scribble and crunching beats that appear to have been created from samples of guns being loaded and cocked.
